A reprehensible incident unfolded in Belmonte Mezzagno as a 75-year-old man, seated on a bench, reprimanded a young boy who was pelting him with small objects. In response, the boy struck the elderly man squarely in the face, followed by a barrage of kicks and punches. The protagonists of this grim tale are the septuagenarian and a mere 13-year-old.
The young assailant's family members subsequently joined in the assault, continuing to beat the man, who was now prone on the ground, with a relentless volley of kicks and punches. This brutal onslaught resulted in a cranial trauma and a fractured jaw for the elderly man. Rushing to his aid was his daughter, who herself suffered bruises from the attack. The Carabinieri have launched an investigation into the incident. The man's family has filed a formal complaint.
"At this moment, I cannot comment," stated Belmonte Mezzagno Mayor Maurizio Milone, "as there is an ongoing investigation. Unfortunately, the case is grave, very serious, and I have taken all necessary institutional steps that my role mandates. I rushed to the scene upon learning of the assault. What I witnessed was both distressing and alarming. I urged the Deputy Mayor to contact the Carabinieri station in Belmonte Mezzagno, as no one had done so up until that point. Incidents of this nature are unacceptable. There will be no tolerance."
