Sicilian regional councillor arrested
Carabinieri police based in Trapani on Wednesday put Dario Safina, a member of the Sicilian regional assembly for the centre-left Democratic Party (PD), under house arrest in relation to a probe into allegedly rigged public tenders.
Three other people are also under investigation in relation to the case.
They are the general manager and the administrative director of Trapani's waste-management agency, who were given bans from being in Trapani and Erice, and a manager for a public-lighting-sector company, who was banned from business activities for a year.
