Sicily Shines at the International Tourism Exchange in Milan

Sicilian politics at all levels have come together to promote Sicily at the BIT, the International Tourism Exchange currently held in Milan. Sunday saw a large turnout with various talks and tastings, while today, attention turns to the President of the Region, Schifani.

Sicily reaffirms itself as one of the most sought-after and awarded tourist destinations, taking center stage at the International Tourism Exchange (Bit) in Milan, running until tomorrow. The region's goal is clear: to make tourism an economic driver all year round, focusing on sustainability, enhancement of natural and cultural heritage, and innovation in the tourism offering.

Regional strategies: sustainable tourism and new experiences Regional Minister of Territory and Environment, Giusy Savarino, reiterated the Schifani government's commitment to the deseasonalization of tourism: "We aim to valorize and open our natural beauties, parks, 75 reserves, geosites, and UNESCO sites to sustainable and responsible tourism. Sicily offers unique experiences, from the mountains to the sea, even in winter."

At Bit, the "System of Protected Natural Areas" was presented, encompassing 4 regional parks, one national park, 7 marine protected areas, 248 Natura 2000 sites, and other natural wonders. Additionally, six thematic naturalistic itineraries have been launched to connect protected areas through experiential and cultural routes.

The Region has also developed an Educational Offer Catalog, designed for schools, to bring young people closer to the knowledge and respect for the environment.

The role of Western Sicily: events, culture, and traditions Special attention is also paid to Western Sicily, which is represented at Bit with the project "The Best of Western Sicily," promoted by the agency Feedback and supported by various public and private entities, including the municipalities of Castellammare del Golfo, Favignana-Egadi Islands, Mazara del Vallo, and San Vito Lo Capo.

One of the most anticipated moments was the presentation of the new edition of the Cous Cous Fest, scheduled from September 19 to 28, 2025, in San Vito Lo Capo. Mayor Francesco La Sala highlighted how this event has allowed the city to extend the tourist season into October, with a surge in visitors over the years.

Mazara del Vallo showcased its tourist offer with a focus on its cultural and gastronomic identity, while Castellammare del Golfo announced the return of the "Gustorie di Sicilia," celebrating local culinary traditions.

For the Egadi Islands, the Marine Protected Area unveiled significant cultural events and territorial enhancement activities, such as the exhibition "The Florios: Between Luxury and Innovation," scheduled for April, and the Marettimo Italian Film Fest, returning in July with internationally renowned guests.

Regional Commitment: More Visitors and New Initiatives At the inauguration of the Sicily booth, the Regional Minister of Tourism, Elvira Amata, highlighted the increase in tourist arrivals and Sicily's receipt of the Tourism Oscar - MHR Awards as the best destination in Italy. Today, President Renato Schifani will present the official data for 2024 and the new "Sicilia d’inverno" tourism promotion plan, aimed at attracting visitors even in the off-season.
